Australia’s first free trade agreement with a Middle Eastern country has now come into force, unlocking new opportunities for Australian food and agribusinesses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and across the wider Gulf region.
The Australia–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) removes tariffs on more than 99% of Australian exports to the UAE and delivers estimated tariff savings of A$185 million in its first year. The agreement strengthens market access for premium Australian produce, food and beverage products, and agricultural goods — making it easier to diversify into this key growth market.
Beyond goods trade, CEPA opens doors for collaboration in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and First Nations-led business initiatives. It also includes gender and labour rights provisions, supporting inclusive and sustainable trade growth.
