Food and beverage businesses selling products domestically in Australia may now be eligible to use the Government’s Made in Australia food labelling mark free of charge, following recent changes to food labelling laws. This applies to products sold within Australia and can also be used on products intended for export, provided the relevant requirements are met.
Under the updated legislation, businesses selling food products domestically must display the Government’s Country of Origin Food Labelling. There is no requirement to register or pay licensing fees to use these mandated labels. As a result, the Australian Made Campaign no longer issues new licences for the Australian Made logo on food and beverage products sold in Australia, and now only licenses food products intended exclusively for export markets.
This opportunity is relevant for food and beverage producers reviewing or updating their packaging to ensure compliance with current labelling requirements, while still clearly communicating Australian origin to customers.
