A new collaboration between Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN), Food Agility CRC (FA), Future Food Systems CRC (FFS) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking to drive collaboration and innovation in the Food and Agribusiness sector of Southeast Queensland.
The collaboration is currently seeking initiatives that align with the following themes:
- Net Zero & Sustainable Business/Farming Practices
- Circular Economy
- Data-Driven Decision Making
- Aboriginal and First Nations Agricultural Knowledge
- Food Safety and Security
- Nutrition and Education
- Secure Supply Chains
Projects must meet the following selection criteria to be considered for funding:
- Business applying is a FAN member
- Initiative encourages investment from industry partners
- Project lifespan between 1 – 3 years
- An existing relationship with QUT is desirable, but not required
- Collaborative projects involving multiple businesses with a shared challenge are invited to apply.
Shortlisted project submissions will be considered by the collaboration committee, made up of representatives from FAN, FA, FFS and QUT, in September, with contracting to commence in October 2022. Successful projects will begin January 2023.
Project funding will be allocated in the following tiers:
- Small project: A$100,000 (12 months)
- Medium project: A$250,000 (1-2 years)
- Large project: A$500,000 (2-3 years)
Standard project funding split between industry / CRC / QUT is 33:33:33.

Food Agility CRC
Food Agility CRC invests in world-leading research that is changing the way we produce, supply and consume food. Together with its partners, Food Agility create new data-driven technology for the agrifood industry using artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, sensors, advanced data analytics and more.
It’s partnership network spans the Australian agrifood and agtech industries and includes eight leading universities. It is funded by its strategic partners and by the Australian Government through its CRC Program.
Future Food Systems CRC
Future Food Systems partners leading Australian universities with industry and government bodies to deliver impactful research in the food systems domain. ‘Future food’ is shorthand for categories of food that are differentiated by exceptional values for nutrition, environmental sustainability, safety and trust.
The CRC consortium brings together leading experts and laboratories across the many disciplines needed to transform the sector – plant scientists, food scientists, planners, engineers, advanced manufacturing specialists, and medical scientists at the forefront of functional food in clinical settings.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a major Australian university with a global outlook. Home to nearly 50,000 students, QUT provides real-world infrastructure, learning and teaching, and graduate skills to the next generation of change-makers.
QUT is a core participant in the both the Food Agility CRC and Future Food Systems CRC and plays a key role in providing research, commercialisation and research training activities in partnership with industry members. QUT provides R&D expertise and connections with end user industries working in collaboration with CRC partners to develop new technology and solutions in support of industry challenges.
